Will this upgrade retain my steering wheel controls?
Yes and no. Depending on your type of phone (Apple/Android) you may or may not retain some steering wheel functionality. For Apple iPhone users, your volume and track selection steering wheel paddles WILL work. For Android users, your track selection and volume paddles WILL NOT work. In both cases, the steering wheel button for “Long Press for Voice Assistant (Siri/Google Assistant)” will not work. However, saying “Hey Siri/Hey Google” or pressing the buttons on screen will still work for using your smartphone’s assistant. You will still retain paddle controls for all other applications other than Android Auto (ex. volume during FM playback can still be changed via paddles). For 100% functionality of the steering wheel buttons in both systems, you will need to install a 2016+ cluster. This also is required to retain verbal turn by turn directions using factory navigation when upgrading to or retaining an IO6 2.5 HMI kit We offer both programming and full kits, which can be found HERE.
Will I retain my SiriusXM Satellite Radio service?
The new kit comes with a new receiver, which means a new SiriusXM Radio ID. Once the new kit is installed, simply tune the radio to SiriusXM channel 0 and the new receiver ID will be displayed. A simple phone call to SiriusXM or an account change online will re-activate your existing service on the new receiver included with the kit.
Can I upgrade my non-navigation (IO5) system to a factory navigation (IO6) system?
Yes. You will need an antenna or splitter added to your purchase to enable GPS satellite reception to the new unit, but the system will work in your vehicle. Alternatively, if you have a factory navigation (IO6) system, and you do not wish to keep factory navigation in favor of using Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze through Carplay or Android Auto instead, you may purchase an IO5 kit.
NOTE FOR GMC CUSTOMERS ONLY – Please indicate in a note whether you would like to retain the 2014-2016 RED theme for the infotainment system or the newer 2017-2018 BLUE theme. All orders for GMC vehicles will be sent with the original RED theme unless otherwise indicated. If you opt for the BLUE theme, please note this will also change the coloring of the theme on your stock UDD cluster to a BLUE background.
